Espoo - June 4, 2026 - Gosta Labs is strengthening its medical and scientific leadership with the appointment of physician and scientist Niilo Ryti as Chief Medical AI Officer. Dr. Ryti brings a rare combination of clinical credibility, large-scale healthcare transformation experience, and high-impact scientific research.
In his new role, Dr. Ryti will lead Gosta's global go-to-market for complex-care AI, advance R&D of the company's underlying models and data structures, and shape the architecture and APIs that embed this intelligence into the fabric of care.
"Healthcare systems are already overwhelmingly complex for payers, providers, and those working on the front line of care, and adding new digital solutions on top seldom simplifies that complexity," says Dr. Ryti. "A fundamental issue is that many AI solutions are designed from the outset for broad, generic use cases, which in practice leads to poor fit, weaker usability, and limited real-world impact."
"At Gosta, we take a different approach. We build an exceptionally strong core and layer tightly fitting solutions on top of it, always tailored to specific clinical contexts. We are not just another ambient scribe, but a medical AI operating layer that streamlines how information is used within complex clinical workflows. That's how you reduce complexity rather than add to it, and how you create tools that deliver compounding value for clinicians, patients, and health systems."
Dr. Ryti's clinical experience spans the full continuum of care, from prehospital and primary care to secondary care and the deepest trenches of specialist medicine in the university hospital setting. A specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care, he has worked across the most demanding clinical environments, including the ICUs and operating departments of Helsinki University Central Hospital and the national burn centre. He has also served as a prehospital emergency physician in Finland's busiest physician-staffed unit (the Helsinki Medical Ambulance) and in South Africa, where he practiced in the trauma unit of Africa's largest hospital. He is also a specialist in public health medicine and has advised ministries on innovation leadership and national preparedness. As a chief physician and chief R&D physician, he has led major healthcare transformation efforts, and his teams have earned recognition both internally and externally.
As a scientist, Dr. Ryti is a skilled epidemiologist and big data scientist. He is an adjunct professor of epidemiology at the University of Helsinki and Finland's first docent of disaster medicine at the University of Oulu. He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as NEJM, BMJ, Lancet Planetary Health, and Nature Climate Change, and his work has been cited more than 8,600 times (his H-index is 32).
"Niilo is a technology- and AI-native physician with an exceptionally strong medical and scientific foundation, and a clear vision for how healthcare AI should be built. We're extremely happy to have him as part of the Gosta team" says Lauri Sippola CEO of Gosta Labs.
